This is a 12' tall Whooping Crane, built
for the Domain
in Austin, TX. The head and body are milled EPS foam.
The feet were enlarged, and cast with an internal
armature. The legs and neck were sculpted full scale
over the armature. The armature extends below
the feet, where steel plates were welded and anchored
to concrete piers before the sidewalk was poured. The
grass is bent and shaped angled steel that acts as a
third leg to keep the sculpture stable.
